SHOTOKAN KARATE

TUCSON SHOTOKAN CLUB

Enrique Olivares, Chief Instructor

j.e.olivares@comcast.net

Shotokan is one of Karate's five major styles.  Our club is a member of the International Shotokan Federation (ISKF) under the direction of Sensei Teruyuki Okazaki, who was a direct student of Master Funakoshi and Sensei Masatoshi Nakayama. Master Funakoshi established the first Shotokan dojo in Tokyo in 1936.

Our sessions are comprised of Kihon, Kumite and Kata practice. We first train basic standing and moving techniques, and progress to fighting simulations, ending with models of defense and counter attacks that distinguish our style.

We regularly participate in regional and national tournaments; however, our first intention is to provide the individual with a training plan that fits his or her needs.  Our philosophy of Shotokan Karate is to develop a lifelong, healthful practice.
